10K Trail Run

An Ice Age Trail sampler, the 10K trail run course routes over the rugged rock outcrops of Riegel Trail, a new grassy path that parallels the Polk County Fairgrounds and the forested footpaths of Zillmer Loop. The Mindy Creek trail segment descends into fern-laden, cathedral-like valley and gradually ascends to views of the St. Croix through the tree tops.  Crossing Hwy. 87 into Lion’s Park, a quick right leads to the Indianhead Segment, a smooth there and back following river and several babbling, spring-fed creeks.  Hamilton Street connects to the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway Visitor Center and Gaylord Nelson Riverwalk which leads to a quick finish at the Overlook Deck.

10K Course Conditions

  • Ice Trail Segments are dirt or grassy paths with occasion rock outcrops.
  • A few gradual uphills, however predominantly downhill or flat
as course goes toward or along the river
  • Approximately 2 kilometers of the course is asphalt street connectors.
  • Ice Trail Segments are clearly marked with the characteristic yellow blaze, a rectangle shaped piece of plastic attached at eye-level to trees.  Where no trees are convenient to mark the path, a white paint blaze may be found on rocks or a cairn set up to mark the way.
  • Trail is not suitable for strollers or baby joggers.
